Full Course Information

Course Overview

Dogging Training aims to give participants the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently undertake dogging work in a range of working environments. On completion, candidates will be able to competently undertake a range of slinging techniques; select and inspect lifting gear and equipment; direct crane operators in the safe movement and placement of loads including out of view of the crane operator. The course also covers applicable legislations and standards; risk management procedures relating to lifting operations; crane types, uses and characteristics; crane set up and other elements of crane and dogging operations.
By completing this training and assessment you will be awarded the High Risk Licence class DG.

There are no prerequisites to Dogging Training however a participant is only eligible to apply for their High Risk Work licence with Worksafe once they are 18 years of age. Participants are required to have at least a basic level of language and numeracy as calculations are a competency in the course.

Course Delivery

Dogging (Licenced) training and assessment is conducted at the Site Skills Training facility 72-80 Belgravia St, Belmont, Perth 6104. Upon arrangement, training and courses can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Completion Award

Upon successful completion of the Dogging Training (including nominal logbook hours collected on a worksite) a Statement of Attainment will be issued for application of a HRW Licence


Successful candidates will be eligible to apply to WorkSafe for their (DG) Dogging Licence. This is a High Risk Work (HRW) Licence

Further training

The CPCCLDG3001A Licence to Perform Dogging course is a prerequisite to CPCCLRG3001A Licence to perform rigging basic level, and also forms part of the qualification: CPC30511 Certificate III in Dogging.

Work opportunities

Trainees who successfully completeDogging Training unit of competency and attain a licence are able to work in the civil or resource industries as a dogger where the load is out of site of the crane/plant operator

Suitable for

Dogging Training is required by, and suitable for, those who intend to work with cranes of all varieties, and those who may require to dog loads with loadshifting equipment, within the Construction & Resource sectors

Licensing Regulations

A photographic licence is issued to people who are assessed as being competent to hold the High Risk Work licence (HRW licence), subject to identification checks and verification of age. You must be at least 18 years of age before you can be issued with an HRW licence from Worksafe WA. A HRW licence is issued for a period of five (5) years starting on the date of issue of the first HRW licence class endorsed on the licence

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer

There is no recognition of prior learning for Dogging Training
