Site Skills Training in collaboration with our training partner, Insituto Technico Del Petroleo (ITP) provide an accredited and globally recognised Well Control Training Program aimed at staff working on onshore and offshore rigs. This course is accredited by the International Association of Drilling Contractors through our training partners.
The course provide the knowledge and competency which drilling personnel require to handle well control situations.
Bookings will close 8 days prior to the course start date. To ensure you are able to enrol into your preferred start date please book at least 8 days in advance.
Full payment for courses up to $1,500 must be made before the commencement of the course unless the Payment Plan option is selected. For courses that cost over $1,500, Site Skills Training will hold an initial deposit of $1,500. The balance of fees payable will be charged at a point in the course that is proportionate to the amount of the deposit paid, e.g. a 10-day course costing $3,000, the remaining $1,500 will be charged at the end of day 5 (upon completion of 50% of the course).

This course is conducted at the Brisbane Site Skills Training facility located at 488 Queen Street, Brisbane 4000. Upon arrangement, training and courses can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there a suitable infrastucture and industry training facilities.
Upon successful completion of the examination, candidates will obtain a Well Control Certificate at the right level from the International Association of Drilling Contractors.
Upon completion of the course, course participants will understand:
- Causes of kicks
- Kick prevention
- Pressure concepts and calculations
- Procedures for flow checks, shut-in and other activities
- Gas characteristics and behaviour
- Fluid types and properties
- Constant bottomhole pressure methods
- Instrumentation and equipment
- Subsea well control and equipment
- Operations instruction in special situations such as H2S or shallow gas
To register for IADC Well Sharp (Driller Level), you must have successfully completed IADC Well Sharp (Introductory Level). Previous IADC-WellSharp certificate accepted as proof.
This course is suitable for personnel working on onshore/offshore drilling rigs such as:
- Assistant Drillers
- Rig Managers
- Operating Company Representative (OCR’s)
- Drilling Engineers
- Petroleum Engineers
Please note, a $400 fee applies for participants who are required to resit on a different date.
IADC guidelines require this certification to be refreshed every 2 years.
The course is in accordance IADC guidelines on instructional content, length of study for various topics, test construction, class size and simulator/test well exercises.
