Course Overview
This program aims to provide candidates with the necessary skills to safely wear Breathing Apparatus in a hazardous or toxic environment. The course covers the following:
- Equipment and pre-donning inspections
- Correct donning of breathing apparatus
- Operate breathing apparatus
- Move and search in a reduced visibility environment - smoke, dust, darkness
- Communication procedures and the use of control tally boards
- Use of Breathing Apparatus in emergencies and/or first response situations
- Cleaning, maintenance and storage of Breathing Apparatus
Suitable For
This unit is suitable for persons who are required to wear breathing apparatus for entry to confined spaces with potentially toxic environments, and/or may be required to respond to emergency situations.
Common Industry Competencies (CIC) Standard
This course is also delivered as a part of the CIC Standard package.
The Queensland Natural Gas E&P Industry has recently implemented the Common Industry Competencies (CIC) standard as a requirement for personnel working in the industry. This standard will enhance the safety competency of all personnel in the industry whilst driving consistency and cost efficiency.
The CIC Standard course includes the below units of competency:
Payment Options
Full payment for courses up to $1,500 must be made before the commencement of the course unless the Payment Plan option is selected. For courses that cost over $1,500, Site Skills Training will hold an initial deposit of $1,500. The balance of fees payable will be charged at a point in the course that is proportionate to the amount of the deposit paid, e.g. a 10-day course costing $3,000, the remaining $1,500 will be charged at the end of day 5 (upon completion of 50% of the course).

Further Information
Operate Breathing Apparatus Training requires a Unique Student Identifier (USI) , you can still complete the training without a USI, though Site Skills Training is unable to provide you with your completion certificate until you provided us with your USI. To apply for a free USI visit the USI website or contact our facility.
Course Delivery
Operate Breathing Apparatus training and assessment is conducted on-site at the Site Skills Training Logan. Upon arrangement, training and courses can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there a suitable industry training facilities.
Our Logan facility is at 1 Nestor Drive, Meadowbrook Logan QLD and training can be delivered on-site/client premises.
Prerequisite Information
There are no formal prerequisites for Operate Breathing Apparatus.
