Traffic Control provides participants with the necessary knowledge, practical skills and understanding to be able to control traffic using a STOP/SLOW bat in accordance with approved procedures set by the Queensland Government. These Skills and knowledge will enable them as a traffic controller to plan & prepare their work, coordinate traffic, operate radios and clean up the worksite.

The course structure for new industry entrants is 1 day of classroom theory (8 hours) plus a minimum of 20 hours of practical experience at a roadwork site.
The course structure for participants who have previously completed the course and require a ‘refresher’ course is attending a 4-hour classroom theory course. There is no requirement to complete vocational placement. Refresher training is required every three years.

Log Book Requirements
Site Skills Training delivers the formal theory component of the training during the course. Students are then required to complete a minimum of 20 hours (logbook hours) of practical experience at the roadwork site under the direct supervision of an experienced accredited traffic controller. After completion of the logbook hours students are then assessed at roadwork site by a Site Skills Training assessor. If students are deemed competent at the completion of final assessment they will be awarded a Statement of Attainment.
Full payment for courses up to $1,500 must be made before the commencement of the course. For courses that cost over $1,500, Site Skills Training will hold an initial deposit of $1,500, with the balance to be paid upon commencement of the course.

Traffic Control is suitable for those who wish to operate as Traffic Controller with a STOP SLOW bat within the Resources, Construction, Transport and Infrastructure industries.
Upon successful completion of the unit, including logbook, a Statement of Attainment will be issued a long with the application to submit to Transport and Mainroads for a traffic Controller licence.
A Statement of Attainment is issued upon completion of all elements of the course, including logbook and observations. This must be taken along with the Accredited Traffic Controller Application form and licence application fee to Qld Transport when lodging your Traffic Controller's Licence Application.
This course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to function as a Traffic Controller with a STOP SLOW bat in and around active construction and resource sites as well as a live roadworks site.
Traffic Control is delivered to new entrants as well as applicants that are employed by companies that conduct and or supply Traffic Control services. Training and assessment is conducted on-site at Site Skills Training Brisbane. Upon arrangement, training and assessment can be conducted at the premises of industry clients providing there are suitable industry training facilities.
Our Brisbane Southside facility is located at 1 Nestor Dr, Meadowbrook, Logan, QLD and training can be delivered on-site/client premises.
Participants must be over 18 years of age and will need a basic level of language and literacy as this course requires participant’s to do a theory assessment and receive 100% pass mark.
Drivers Licence – all participants must have held an open or provisional Queensland, interstate or foreign drivers licence for a continuous 12-month period in the last 5 years.
‘White Card’ – all participants must provide a construction industry white card prior to commencement.
Participants must be aware of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Traffic Controller accreditation requirements prior to course commencement. TMR requires that applicants applying for the Traffic Controller accreditation must pass Criminal Offence and Traffic Offence History Requirements, Medical History Requirements and must meet all other TMR requirements. Both the theory and practical training and assessment must be completed within a 3-month period.

This unit forms part of the RII30913 Certificate III in Civil Construction and the RII30813 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.
