Course Overview

Advance your welding portfolio, and gain the theoretical knowledge required to apply for your Welding Certificate - to qualify, you must also complete the theory certification as prescribed by Australian Standards (AS) 1796 - 2001.

This course covers knowledge of welding terms, codes and symbols, the effects of heat treatment on metal as it relates to welding, and the logical sequence for a welding process required to be conducted to AS 1796. It also covers welding, planning and set up principles for a range of materials and welding processes (Welding Certification Theory). Advance your welding portfolio and gain the practical skills required to apply for your Welding Certificate - to qualify, you must also complete the theory certification as prescribed by Australian Standards (AS) 1796 - 2001.

Certification is mandatory for welders engaged in welding activities involved in the manufacture of pressure equipment such as boilers, pressure vessels and associated piping, as defined in AS / New Zealand Standards 1200 (Certification Practical).

Course Duration

  • Welding Certification Theory: 10 Weeks (1 Night Per Week)
  • Welding Certification Practical: 10 Weeks (1 Night Per Week)
  • Total Duration: 20 Weeks (1 Night Per Week)

Qualification Outcome

On successful completion of this course you receive a Statement of Attainment. The units in this course form part of MEM40105 - Certificate IV in Engineering.

Direct entry trades include:

  • Boilermaker
  • Sheet metal

Or, persons who have completed the correlating advanced stream:

  • MEM05016C Perform advanced welding using manual metal arc welding process
