Load and Unload Plant Training

Load and Unload Plant gives candidates the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently load and unload plant on floats and/or trailers. With the Chain of Responsibility laws putting onus on all within the supply chain it is important for road user’s safety that plant and equipment is loaded and secured appropriately.

Load and Unload Plant content includes:

  • Operational safety and risk management
  • Calculating weights and volumes; centre of gravity
  • Movement of different types of plant on and off float/trailer
  • Placing and securing loads - including types and limitations of restraints
  • Hand signals and communication methods
  • Reporting/hand-over requirements

Load Restraint Training

If you are the driver of a vehicle or have contributed to the loading and unloading of a vehicle you have a duty of care to others on the road to ensure the load is restrained correctly and safely.

This course aims to give you the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques to secure various types of loads in accordance with the National Transport Commission, Australian Standards and industry best practice standards.

Candidates will learn:

  • applicable legislation and responsibility;
  • relevant forces and loading;
  • load distribution and correct placement;
  • restraint systems, their use and limitations incl. WLL deration;
  • securing methods;
  • hitches and bends;
  • dangerous goods;
  • oversized loads; and,
  • personal and others health and safety.

Operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle Training

Operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle is aimed at providing participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to operate and maintain a four-wheel drive vehicle. It includes Identifying specific parts, terminology and techniques, planning for minimal environmental impact, performing pre-start and pre-departure checks, use the features of a four-wheel drive vehicle to drive in a variety of terrain types, use single snatch strap to recover vehicle and perform maintenance and minor repairs on four-wheel drive vehicles.

Training

Traffic Control Training

Traffic Control provides participants with the necessary knowledge, practical skills and understanding to be able to control traffic using a STOP/SLOW bat in accordance with approved procedures set by the Queensland Government. These Skills and knowledge will enable them as a traffic controller to plan & prepare their work, coordinate traffic, operate radios and clean up the worksite.

The course structure for new industry entrants is 1 day of classroom theory (8 hours) plus a minimum of 20 hours of practical experience at a roadwork site.

The course structure for participants who have previously completed the course and require a ‘refresher’ course is attending a 4-hour classroom theory course. There is no requirement to complete vocational placement. Refresher training is required every three years.

The price of this course includes the purchase of a $30 Ready Reckoner book which is a mandatory requirement to complete the course. A reimbursement can be issued if the student has previously purchased this book elsewhere.

Traffic Management Training

Traffic Management Training provides the skills and knowledge required to implement a traffic guidance scheme for roadwork ensuring traffic flow is maintained and the safety of the public and workers is maximized.

This unit requires compliance with the:

  • Code of Practice: “Traffic Management for construction or maintenance work 2008 QLD”
  • Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) – Part 3
  • Transport Operations Road Use Management Act and Regulations 1995
  • Site specific Traffic Guidance Scheme / Traffic Management Plans

The course structure for new industry entrants is 1 day of classroom theory (8 hours) plus three practical set-ups. This course must be completed within a maximum period of three months.

The course structure for persons who have previously completed the course and require a ‘refresher course’ is that they must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Traffic Management Implementation procedures and demonstrate 3 years of on-the-job industry experience prior to completing a 4-hour classroom theory ‘refresher’ course.
