Note a High Risk Work Licence fee of $76 applies above the course cost. This is directly payable to WorkSafe NT.

Course Overview

Dogging Training aims to give participants the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently undertake dogging work in a range of working environments to gain their Dogman Licence.

On completion, candidates will be able to competently undertake

  • a range of slinging techniques;
  • select and inspect lifting gear and equipment;
  • direct crane operators in the safe movement and placement of loads including out of view of the crane operator.

Dogman Ticket training also covers:

  • applicable legislations and standards;
  • risk management procedures relating to lifting operations;
  • crane types,
  • uses and characteristics;
  • crane set up and other elements of crane and dogging operations.

Payment Options

Full payment for courses up to $1,500 must be made before the commencement of the course unless the Payment Plan option is selected. For courses that cost over $1,500, Site Skills Training will hold an initial deposit of $1,500. The balance of fees payable will be charged at a point in the course that is proportionate to the amount of the deposit paid, e.g. a 10-day course costing $3,000, the remaining $1,500 will be charged at the end of day 5 (upon completion of 50% of the course).

Qualification Outcomes

Dogging Training requires a Unique Student Identifier (USI) , you can still complete the training without a USI, though Site Skills Training is unable to provide you with your completion certificate until you provided us with your USI. To apply for a free USI visit the USI website or contact our facility.

Suitable For

A Dogging Licence is required by, and suitable for, those who intend to work with cranes of all varieties, and those who may require to dog loads with loadshifting equipment, within the Construction & Resource sectors

Course Delivery

Training and assessment is conducted at the Site Skills Training facility 1 Campion Rd, East Arm, NT 0820. Upon arrangement, training and courses can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Prerequisite Information

Although there are no set training prerequisites, NT WorkSafe will only issue a High Risk Work Licence to persons who meet the following criteria:

  • The person successfully completes an approved VET course (for the class of licence being sought) with a Registered Training Organisation
  • The person MUST be a resident of the Northern Territory, or
  • The person MUST provide a letter from their employer that they are a Fly In / Fly Out worker on a Mine Site in the Northern Territory

Failure to meet these criteria will result in the person NOT being issued with a High Risk Work Licence in the Northern Territory.

Licensing Regulation

Applicants are only eligible to apply for a Work Safe NT Licence, once they are 18 years of age and have completed the final assessment. A HRW photographic licence is issued for a period of five (5) years starting on the date of issue of the first HRW licence class endorsed on the licence.

Work Opportunities

Trainees who successfully complete this unit of competency and attain a licence are able to work in the civil or resource industries as a dogger where the load is out of site of the crane/plant operator

Further Opportunities

A dogging licence is a prerequisite to enrolment in Licence to Perform Rigging basic level. CPCCLDG3001A Licence to perform dogging can be credited towards the nationally recognised qualification Certificate III in Dogging CPC30511.
