Course Overview

FWPCOT2237 Maintain chainsaws

This unit describes the outcomes required to carry out maintenance of hand-held chainsaws. It relates to the maintenance and servicing requirements of chainsaw powerheads and cutting attachments; chain sharpening, clean-up, storage procedures and recording requirements. General legislative, regulatory and workplace requirements apply to this unit; however there are no specific licensing or certification requirements at the time of publication.

FWPCOT2239 Trim and cut felled trees

This unit describes the outcomes required to trim and cut felled trees with a chainsaw. It is intended for use in situations where the production of timber is not the primary focus of the activity. The unit also includes equipment maintenance. General workplace legislative and regulatory requirements apply to this unit; specific licensing or certification requirements may apply in some states and territories.

AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain chainsaws

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a hand-held chainsaw and maintain it in working condition, cross-cutting fallen timber and using safe cutting techniques. Preparation of work site, application of workplace safety procedures, inspection, operation and maintenance of the chainsaw are elements covered in training.

Payment Options

Full payment for courses up to $1,500 must be made before the commencement of the course unless the Payment Plan option is selected. For courses that cost over $1,500, Site Skills Training will hold an initial deposit of $1,500. The balance of fees payable will be charged at a point in the course that is proportionate to the amount of the deposit paid, e.g. a 10-day course costing $3,000, the remaining $1,500 will be charged at the end of day 5 (upon completion of 50% of the course).

Qualification Outcomes

Chainsaw operations is designed for persons who use a chainsaw for simple tasks other than felling trees such as area maintenance.

Course Delivery

Training and assessment is conducted at 108 Victoria Road, Kenwick WA 6107. Upon arrangement, training and courses can be conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients providing there a suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities.

Prerequisite Information

There are no prerequisites to this operator's licence, however. Participants will not be able to apply for the HRW Licence until they are 18 years old. It is recommended that a person attains their working at heights qualification prior to undertaking this course.
