Compressor Week: Understanding and Optimising Compression is delivered in partnership with Wild Geese International who are an Integrated Training, Operations and Service Provider to the oil and gas industry.

Course Overview

Engineers learn theory and operators learn from experience, but how do we ensure both theory and experience are combined to full advantage?

Both groups need to understand the fundamental principles, the interaction with the driver limitations, be able to understand the application of process control and be able to spot problems. This course has been prepared to give a practical understanding of compression in the real world, combined with modern control systems and the pursuit of optimum performance.

It is an intensive course which relies heavily on the use of many computer simulation practical examples to explore compressor operation, its control and optimisation and to give a comprehensive overview of the whole compressor family.

Course Outcomes

Upon Successful completion of Compressor Week: Understanding and Optimising Compression, participants will receive a Statement of attendance.

At the end of the course delegates will be able to explain the common fundamental aspects of each type of compressor, but also highlight the differences and the appropriate application of the most common types of compressors.

Most importantly the participants will understand the physics of compression and hence what a compressor can and cannot do. They will also understand how control regulates the performance of a compressor and its driver, and how the driver and compressor interact.

From an understanding of the physics, delegates will also understand the cause of surge in centrifugal compression, how to prevent surge in operation and through the use of control techniques to provide anti surge protection.

This thorough understanding will then equip the delegate to appreciate common operating problems, their causes and their solutions.

Finally, delegates will be familiar with multi-stage and multi-train configurations commonly encountered in the real world and their operation and optimisation.

Payment Options

Full payment for courses up to $1,500 must be made before the commencement of the course unless the Payment Plan option is selected. For courses that cost over $1,500, Site Skills Training will hold an initial deposit of $1,500. The balance of fees payable will be charged at a point in the course that is proportionate to the amount of the deposit paid, e.g. a 10-day course costing $3,000, the remaining $1,500 will be charged at the end of day 5 (upon completion of 50% of the course).

A Payment Plan option is available for this course, please visit the Payment Plans Page for more information.

Payment for this course can be made via eftpos, cash, cheque or the Payment Plan option above. For billing information including who to write a cheque to, please email payment@site.edu.au or call
