Course Overview

This unit covers the conduct excavator operations in the civil construction industry.

It includes:

  • planning and preparing;
  • conducting machine pre-operational checks;
  • operation of an excavator including loading,
    • bulk excavation,
    • backfilling,
    • trench excavation,
    • stockpiling,
    • battering and benching;
    • lifting,
  • carrying and placing materials;
  • selecting,removing and fitting attachments;
  • relocating the machine;
  • carrying out machine operator maintenance;
  • and cleaning up.

Pre-Course Assessment

This course requires the completion of a pre-course assessment. Once training has been booked, an email will be sent to you with a copy of the learner guide and assessment. Alternatively, a hard copy may be collected from the Belmont Site Skills Training facility. Failure to complete pre-course assessment prior to the commencement of the course will result in re-scheduling of training.

Payment Options

Full payment for courses up to $1,500 must be made before the commencement of the course unless the Payment Plan option is selected. For courses that cost over $1,500, Site Skills Training will hold an initial deposit of $1,500. The balance of fees payable will be charged at a point in the course that is proportionate to the amount of the deposit paid, e.g. a 10-day course costing $3,000, the remaining $1,500 will be charged at the end of day 5 (upon completion of 50% of the course).

Qualification Outcomes

Licensing Regulation

Load shifting (other than Forklift) equipment no longer are required to have a licence however an operator must still be deemed competent. Statement of Attainment received from completing this course is suitable.

Yes - participants may be required to undergo a competency test.
