Recognition of Prior Learning

Site Skills Training acknowledges the effort of individuals to obtain training and experience to improve and advance their career prospects. In some cases, students are able to have their achievements count towards their qualification through recognition of prior learning.
What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual's relevant prior learning (including formal, informal and non-formal learning) to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the process of receiving credit for previous skills, training or experience gained through work and learning.  Students who can show they possess knowledge and skills that align to one of Sites' courses could save time and money with this option.

How does RPL work?

Site awards RPL by assessing the type of training, assessment and experience already completed by a student. Credit may be awarded if such knowledge and skills are comparable to those which would be gained through a Site Skills Training course.

What evidence is needed to gain RPL?

Site requires evidence that an applicant has relevant experience and may ask questions or have the applicant perform tasks relating to some or all or the following:

  • Work experience- including paid an unpaid
  • Formal training or qualifications- through school, relevant training programmes or work
  • Life experience- including hobbies or other expertise
What is Credit Transfer?

Credit Transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications

Students who have completed formal training where the content of the training is equivalent to the course they are enrolled in may be eligible for credit transfer. Credit transfer involves recognising the formal training already gained by a student to help them complete their studies with minimal disruption.

How will RPL or Credit Transfer help?

Gaining RPL can help students:

  • By improving job security
  • Re-entering  the workplace
  • For job promotion or career change
  • Moving from volunteer work to paid employment
  • Fast track a qualification
  • Save time and money
