The Olive Downs Coking Coal project by Pembroke Resources is seeking over 1,500 jobs to fill vacant positions in construction and operational positions, with the project set to kick off in 2021. The project is located 40km southeast of Moranbah in Central Queensland’s Bowen Basin – a mature mining region that is well supported by existing infrastructure and logistics*.

The plan is to develop the Olive Downs Coking Coal into a world-class independent and large scale producer of metallurgical coal, delivering high quality coking coal and PCI products to key markets, including Japan, South Korea, China and India.

Pembroke plans to hire an estimated 500-700 construction jobs during the development, and an additional 500 workers around 2027. A further 960 – 1,300 jobs will be created once the mine is operational from 2033 ongoing until 2050. The employment will be locally-based with a heightened focus on gender equality and company diversity. Their aim is to attract ‘new local’ personnel, female, and indigenous participation.

Construction will begin in 2021, after the announcement of the State Government’s approval of the mining leases for the project. It is estimated around 15 million tonnes per annum of the product will be exported overseas. According to Queensland Mining & Energy, the project involves an open-cut metallurgical coal mine, 18km rail spur, rail loop, water pipeline to Eungella Pipeline Network, and private access roads, electricity transmission line, wastewater, and sewage treatment plans.
